World Health Organization classified antimicrobial resistance as important threat to human health. Wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) are claimed to be hotspots for this phenomenon. Antimicrobial resistance in WWTPs is even more dangerous as the resistance genes can be transferred from environmental bacteria to pathogens and create even higher risk for wellbeing of citizens. Therefore, scope of the conference is monitoring of antimicrobial resistance in wastewater treatment plants - approaches and methods, results and perspectives.

The abstracts should be written in English and be limited to two A4 pages, font Arial size 12 pt (including figures and tables). Abstracts must provide a description of the most important achievements to allow for a sound referee review. Accroding to the template shAMRock_Abstract-Template_2020

 Abstract must include:

• title of presentation,
• e-mail and telephone number of corresponding author.

 Submissions are welcome till 29th of June  2020.

The submitted abstracts will be peer reviewed. A notification of acceptance will be sent before July 2020. 

Cafe scientifique - getting to know Norway event was organized to engage people in a conversation about the international collaboration in science and learning from different scientific environments. It was done in informal and friendly atmosphere.

We are pleased to announce official opening of registration to our Monitoring AMR in WWTP conference. Conference is aiming to gather students, researchers, plant's operators and  companies interested in antimicrobial resistance monitoring in wastewater treatment plants.

The registaration to Monitoring AMR in WWTP is open till June 29th.

Our students and Norwegian GenØk's interns - Markéta and Dominik Andreides will share their experiences from Norwegian institute and their adventure with antibiotic resistance research.

Our students Markéta and Dominik Andreides went for two week internhip to Norwegian institute GenOk. During the internship we aimed to get them familiar with GenOk’s research scope, research groups, lab organization etc. Moreover, they we introduced to Norwegian work culture (meetings with workers, discussion about their work, getting know the labs and the rules of work in there) and taught how the small research group is managed. They also found time for Tromso’s cultural heritage. They took part the most popular celebration in Tromso - Solfest - sun fest.

"Each of us has the right to know about the risks associated with the use of antibiotics and the dangers these contaminants create for the environment," says Aleksandra Milobedzka, who will receive financial support from Norwegian funds for the shAMRock project about antimicrobial resistance.

Aleksandra Milobedzka, Postdoctoral Fellow led by Professor Jenicek and collaborating with prof Bartacek and doctor Vejmelkova, will receive a Norwegian grant for the shAMRock project: Shocking Antimicrobial Resistance.

The main objectives of this project are education of researchers in the field of scientific communication and informing the public about the problem of antimicrobial resistence. We want to organize workshops and informal meetings (Café Scientifique) or short-term internship for Czech students at Norwegian universities.

The project got financial support about CZK 250,000 from January to May 2020, and was created in cooperation with the Norwegian research center Genøk - Center for Biosafety.

“ I believe that each one of us has right to know about risk connected to usage of antibiotics and threat that those contaminates create for whole environment. Being university employee does not only mean doing research, but also sharing the results with broad public. To do that we need to create the right communicate, understandable for non-academic sector. That's why I intivited Dr. Wikmark from the Norwegian Center for Biosafety to joint initiative within the EEA, Norway Grants 2014-2021 and the Bilateral Relations Fund. In the past Genøk published several reports on the prevalence of antibiotic resistance genes in farmland, animals and sea water, " said postdoc Milobedzka.

On January 15^th 2020, the EEA and NORWAY GRANTS promotional event was organized within the shAMRock initiative.

The shAMRock initiative was presented by Aleksandra Miłobędzka (UCT Prague). Both Czech and Norwegian perspectives on bilateral initiative were described during the event. Norwegian partner: GenØk - Centre for Biosafety was present in person of Odd-Gunnar Wikmark.

Tomáš Tesař a Programme Manager, working at Dept. 58 - International Relations Department/ Centre for Foreign Assistance/ Preparation and Coordination Unit, supported the event as Ministry of Finance of the Czech Republic representation.

 There were two main objectives of the event:

1. Promote the EEA and NORWAY GRANTS.
2. Present shAMRock initiative and enable networking with Norwegian partner - GenOk - Centre for Biosafety.

The shAMRock initiative, on January 16^th 2020, brought together practitioners and specialists for an urgent environmental needs regarding the spread of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). The meeting combined expert presentations by specialists (Aleksandra Miłobędzka (UCT Prague), Odd-Gunnar Wikmark (GenØk - Centre for Biosafety), Kaare Nielsen (Oslo Met University)), with structured discussion sessions on the challenges and opportunities connected to the problem.

 The objective of this conference was threefold:

1. To foster discussion and strengthen connections between Norwegian and Czech experts and Czech students.
2. To revise what was already done in AMR environmental monitoring and see how the shamrock initiative can help raise the awareness of the problem.
3. Promote the EEA and NORWAY GRANTS.

During our Science communication and successful grant writing workshop you can:

• be introduced to Café Scientifique concept
• hear about motvivation of researchers to share their knowledge with public
• develop relevant questions for the public
• get and practice your skills in sharing knowledge

The One Health concept is a strategy with a long-overdue bias towards disease prevention as well as health promotion across the human, animal, and environmental domains.

During the One Health conference you can learn more about EU and Norwegian national strategy as well as how does the shAMRock initative fits into them. The evironmetal monitoring done by partners in Norway and Poland will be presented.
