Members of the Institute actively engage in both national and international expert associations dedicated to sustainable water management and sanitation:
Czech Water Association (CzWA) brings together professionals, companies, and institutions with the primary goal of achieving effective and sustainable development in the entire water sector and in protecting water resources. Most members of ÚTVP are also CzWA members and actively participate in various technical working groups.
International Water Association (IWA) is a global network of over 10,000 water technology professionals working in practice, research, and academia. ÚTVP members are particularly active in expert groups such as Anaerobic Digestion, Design, Operation and Costs of Large Wastewater Treatment Plants, and Microbial Ecology and Water Engineering (formerly Activated Sludge Population Dynamics). Notably, Prof. Maděra of ÚTVP was one of the founding members, and Prof. Petr Grau served as IWA president from 1990 to 1994.
European Water Association (EWA) is an independent, non-governmental, non-profit organization focused on water-related issues. Founded on June 22, 1981 as the European Water Pollution Control Association, it is now one of Europe’s largest professional societies in the water sector. Prof. Jiří Wanner served as president of EWA from 2005 to 2007.
World Toilet Organization (WTO) is a global non-profit dedicated to improving sanitation worldwide. Unlike most organizations that focus on water, WTO specifically tackles sanitation and toilets—an area often underfunded and overlooked. Founded by 15 members in 2001, it now includes 235 member organizations across 58 countries. WTO works to break taboos around toilet issues. Prof. Jiří Wanner is also a member of the WTO.
