Project goals

The aim of this project is to demonstrate the efficiency and limits of aerobic granular sludge technology (AGS), which is the future of wastewater treatment. The capabilities of the technology will be demonstrated via several stress cycles exploring the hydraulic and organic loading limits of the technology, the appropriate length of the total cycle and sub-cycles (e.g. anoxic phase), optimization of enhanced biological phosphorus removal, with emphasis on the new control system of the treatment plant. During these states, regular monitoring and evaluation will take place using modern methods - fluorescent in-situ hybridization (FISH), gene probes, and a mathematical model to fully understand the technology and to enable the suitable design and operation of the technology on full scale.

The project "Intensification of biological nutrient removal from wastewater using aerobic granular biomass" is financed with state support from the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic within the SIGMA Program.
