Position:

Researcher (V4), 40 h per week during the project duration, at least 20 h

Topic:

Intensification of biological nutrient removal from wastewater using aerobic granular biomass

Project description:

The project aims to demonstrate the efficiency and limits of the aerobic granular biomass (AGS) technology, which is the future of wastewater treatment. The capabilities of the technology will be demonstrated through several stress cycles, investigating the hydraulic and substance limits of the technology, the optimal length of the overall cycle and sub-cycles (e.g., anoxic phase), and the optimization of increased biological phosphorus removal, as well as the new treatment plant management system. During these conditions, regular monitoring and evaluation will be carried out using modern methods - fluorescence in-situ hybridization (FISH), gene probes, detection of extracellular polymers, and a mathematical model for a complete understanding of the technology and enabling appropriate design and operation of the technology at an operational scale.
The scientist will be guided by senior staff of the Institute of Water and Environmental Technology with specializations in wastewater treatment processes, including mathematical modeling of these processes. Pilot testing is taking place in real conditions in cooperation with ASIO TECH s.r.o.

Project ID:

TQ03000357 GRANBIO; Intensification of biological nutrient removal from wastewater using aerobic granular biomass

Provider:

TAČR – SIGMA – DC2

Project duration:

Until December 2025

Financial conditions:

The position financed by the project covers a monthly gross salary of CZK 32,800 (sum of tariff and project bonuses) upon joining in July 2025 and 100% full-time employment until December 2025. For earlier enrollment (starting possible from May at the earliest), we offer an equivalently lower full-time employment (e.g. May-December - 75% full-time employment, monthly gross salary of CZK 24,600). Part-time work at lower FTE is possible, but no less than 50%.

Requirements:

  • Degree BSc. or M.Sc. in Chemical/Environmental Engineering. Candidates who are likely to obtain their degree no later than June 2025 can also apply.
